Mệnh đề sau WOULD RATHER

“Would rather “ (mong muốn rằng) được dùng để diễn đạt ý nghĩa một người mong muốn người khác làm điều gì đó.
a. Mong muốn ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai
S + would rather (that) + S + Ved/2
Ex1: I would rather you WENT home now
Ex2:Tomorrow’s difficult. I’d rather you CAME next week.

b. Mong muốn ở quá khứ
S + would rather (that) + S + V ( past perfect)
Ex: I would rather you hadn’t left yesterday. (You left yesterday)

* Nếu không có subject. Ta có công thức:
- S + would rather + V1 + than + V1: thích làm việc này hơn việc kia
Ex: I would rather go to the movie than stay at home.
So sánh với:
- S + prefer + Ving + to + Ving
Ex: I prefer going to the movie to staying at home.
